Everyone thinks that when I make Japanese style food, it must be my wife’s recipe.

But she doesn’t cook!

Growing up in downtown Toronto, I’ve been lucky to have tasted a wide variety of cuisines from all over the world. Toronto is the largest city in Canada with a multi-cultural population of over 2.5 million people.

Once I was old enough to start going out to restaurants on my own, I made it my mission to try new things and experience different cultures.

I knew how to use chopsticks even before I met my wife!

I think that kinda impressed her the first time we went out to eat at a Japanese restaurant. That and the fact that I wasn’t afraid to eat sushi!

Meeting the rest of my wife’s extended family further increased my knowledge of Japanese food.

Japanese Miso Green Beans is my take on side dishes I’ve had before and is the perfect complement to this Spicy Asian Salmon recipe.

Instructions
  1. Wash and trim off the ends of the green beans, if needed, then either steam or boil them for 5 minutes.
  2. Whisk together the soya sauce, mirin, sesame seed oil, miso, and brown sugar.
  3. Drizzle over the cooked green beans, add sesame seeds and toss everything together.
  4. Serve with your favourite main course such as Spicy Asian Salmon.
Recipe Notes

TIP: Don't forget to remove the beans from the steam or water, as soon as they're done. There's nothing worse than mushy, over-cooked veggies!
